CL Shaw, guitar; Aidan Gold, electronics & video
This is an ongoing project in collaboration with guitarist and composer CL Shaw. The piece features the solo guitarist and a second, remote performer on Max/MSP. This second performer does not make direct sound of their own, but instead assists, directs, dialogues with, manipulates, disrupts, and hinders the guitarist as they play the piece, moving fluidly from cooperative improvisatory relationships in which the electronics performer gives the guitarist pitches to improvise on in real time to disruptive relationships where the electronics performer takes control of the guitarist’s sound by remotely triggering various processing parameters such as EQ and distortion. Through these transformative relationships I hope to continue challenging and exploring how we as musicians perform, communicate, and react to each other in real time.
